The Dollars and Sense Investment Education
Program (Dollars and Sense) is a financial literacy program
sponsored by State Farm Insurance Companies and authored
by the National Association of Investors Corporation. This
program was designed to provide high school students, grades
9 though 12, with the opportunity to learn and apply “best
practice” strategies for saving and investing. The
goal of this program is to help students understand basic
savings/investment principles and to apply these standards
in their day-to-day lives.
The 8-week curriculum (Investing in Your Future) explores
basic investment options and processes and the concepts
are reinforced through the electronic program call NAIC
Classic. The NAIC Classic is a hands-on learning
experience that allows students to analyze stocks, print
stock analysis reports, and store analyst data for 15 companies. The
course will further be enhanced by field trip(s), guest
speakers, reading materials and games.
Participants in Dollars and Sense will be invited
to compete in a simulated “Investors’ Presentation” during
the 2006 Investment Competition. Teams of two will
present “mock” financial portfolios to judges
who evaluate their understanding of investment concepts,
strategies and products. The winning teams will
be awarded scholarships. All participants will receive
book bags, day planners and school supplies.
